SENARIO: Target: Keflavik
Created by Steve Gormley - #290

Background:
The war has just begun, and the Soviets are preparing to move their
fleets into the Atlantic. It is assumed that one of their first
objectives will be the destruction and/or capture of Keflavik. This
will greatly reduce the risk to their forces as they transit the gap.
If NATO hopes to stem the flow of ships and subs into the Atlantic,
they must retain control of Keflavik.

Intelligence Brief:
Analysts are predicting both bomber and submarine attacks against
Keflavik. They don't know which will pose the greater threat, and are
cautious about giving recommendations.

They can give you some hard data:
  1. At least 100 Backfire bombers are assigned to this effort, all of
them based deep in the Soviet Union.
  2. At least eight Echo II and four Oscar class submarines are at
Sea. Escorting them are their best attack subs, both Akula and
      Sierras.
  3. Several Victor IIIs are out on patrol, location unknown.
  4. Surface forces appear to held back, but no one knows if things
will stay that way or not.

Blue Orders:
You are to use the forces at your disposal to defend Keflavik. Because
the intelligence staff isn't sure where the greatest threat will come
from, the deployment of your forces is your decision, and your
responsibility.

Victory Conditions:
The only victory you can achieve is TOTAL. If you lose Keflavik, NATO
is in for big trouble in the Atlantic. You must defend Keflavik for
at least five days. At that point, we will have sufficient strength
there for Keflavik to take care of itself.
** NOTE ** The method of determining Keflavik's state will be the presence
of one ASW helicopter at all times. Do not use this helicopter to
prosecute sub contacts!
